The American Empire by Chanimur The American Empire by Chanimur
Another Challenge map for the Cartographer's Guild. May's challenge was to map a country, any country, any format, real or fictional.

This is my attempt at mapping the division of the Roman Empire into West and East onto a future America. You can read more about the background here: [link]

Thanks to Obsidian Dawn (www.obsidiandawn.com) for the three mystic circle designs.

You have a mistake, the border between the two sides is Rio Grande as you call it in yout "Great Division" map, but in the main map, the border uses a different route. It is easily noticed by El Paso city and Brownsville. Other than that, great MAP!

The inset map is from an earlier time period than the main map.

Maybe someday. I'd like to do world map, actually, but finding the time and motivation is tough.

It's been a long time since I saw a map that kicked this much ass. The concept, the design and everything about it is awesome. Marvellous work!

The description reminds me somewhat of Gene Wolfe's Urth ("Book of the New Sun" series), with its combination of medievalish trappings and elements that are clearly sci-fi. That or WH40K, but neither are bad references at all

I have a feeling that the western US, like the western half of the late roman empire, is the less wealthy half. Thus, it probably would have to work harder than the East to have an equal standard of living.
