North America: 1874 by Chanimur North America: 1874 by Chanimur
North America, 1874. From an alternate history timeline/story I've been working on, on and off, for quite a few years now...

I'm working towards a PhD covering the development of Quebec nationalism, so pretty cool to see they got their (presumed) theocracy that could have been :) I'm really intrigued by the back storie of the Ozark Republic and Red River Republic though

This is a... bizarre, but strangely delightful retelling of history. The sorcery thing weirds me out, but that goes to show that you have an interesting imagination. :)

wow. One of the few maps that treats the Ozark region with an identity other than as just apart of something else. :)

in this laternate history-cum-magic, the Russians apparently didn't bother with Alaska

They didn't bother with Alaska in reality either. They never developed any significant presence there, and after the Crimean War they sold their empty and undefended territory to the US to develop closer ties and prevent Britain from claiming it should another war break out.

The details of that are yet to be worked out, but in a nutshell, no.

I hate to be a bother but I can't quite make out the writing in the bottom-left corner.

If you could give me the gist of it, that would be useful.

Otehrwise, great map.

If you click "download", it'll take you to a way bigger picture of it, with all the text. But for your convenience:

North America, 1874. A century after the American Revolution gave birth to a new nation forged of sorcery and democracy, the Union faces new challenges. The Spanish-American War and the Cherokee uprising threatened to tear the nation apart scarcely ten years before. The Mexican Civil War has split that once-prosperous nation into four feuding states, spawning waves of refugees and unrest across much of the continent. The necromancers and houngans of Louisiane raid shipping up and down the Mississippi, and the Plains Tribes seek to throw off the yoke of American expansion.

The slaughter of General Edgar Poe and his 7th cavalry by Red Crow's Sioux army threatens to engulf the continent in a war once more, while the puritanical Covenant of Quebec seeks to embark on a crusade to rid the world of sorcery once and for all.

And in the mountains and deserts of the Western Federation - a ragtag nation formed during the fragmentation of Mexico - a coalition of sorcerers seeks to unleash something upon the Earth not seen since the birth of the Aetheric Age - a Great Demon...
